Yangshuo, Guangxi Travel Information
One of the most spectacular and beautiful landscapes in China can be found around the city of Yangshuo in the northern Guangxi province in the south of China. The small town of Yangshuo is located in the middle of a magical karst-hill landscape, at the confluence of the "Jade Dragon River" and the Li River.
Yangshuo is surrounded by impressive limestone cliffs, which rise steeply from the emerald green rice fields into the blue skies above. Even the Central Bank of China was so impressed by the beauty of the karst landscape around Yangshuo that for some time it has been adorning the back of the 20 yuan banknote.
The surroundings of Yangshuo are largely flat and can easily be explored by bicycle. A popular bicycle tour is the one from Yangshuo to the nearby Moon Mountain. The Moon Mountain takes its name from a moon-shaped hole near its summit. A boat trip with a motorized raft on the Li River from Xinping to Yangdi is also recommended. If you like it more relaxed, you can drift down the Yulong River on a bamboo raft at a more leisurely pace.
Starting point for a trip to Yangshuo is usually the next bigger city Guilin. With the CRH highspeed train you can reach Guilin and Yangshuo in about 3.5 hours from the Hong Kong Kowloon West Railway Station.
In recent years the city of Yangshuo has developed into a popular tourist spot with noisy bars, cheap guesthouses and numerous restaurants. You can also escape the hustle and bustle of Yangshuo by staying in a hotel just outside the surrounding villages.
